Lee Jung-hoo's amazing contact impressed the U.S.

Lee Jung-hoo started the 2024 Major League New York Mets home game at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, on the 23rd (Korea time), and contributed to San Francisco's 5-2 victory by playing one hit, one run, and one walk in three at-bats.

Lee Jung-hoo, who reached multiple bases with a walk and a hit ball against the Arizona Diamondbacks on the previous day (22nd), increased his on-base record to 13 consecutive games after losing 11 consecutive games due to no hits in two at-bats. It is a record that started against the San Diego Padres on the 8th, and has succeeded in reaching multi-base in the last five consecutive games since the Miami Marlins on the 18th.

Lee's batting average for this season increased from 282 to 284 (25 hits in 88 times at bat). OPS also edged up from .725 to .729.

Lee Jung-hoo entered the lineup as the third hitter against Mets left-hander Jose Quintana on the day. He started as the third hitter of this season. When Ma'amie Marlins was also left-hander on the 17th and 18th, right-handed hitter Austin Slater entered the first and Lee moved to the third. He had one hit in four at-bats and two hits in four previous two games, but he had a hit again on the day.

At his first at-bat in the first inning, he grounded out to the first base. He picked out balls one to two in a row against Quintana, and pulled an 89.8-mile sinker (144.5 kilometers), which was high in the middle of the third pitch, but failed to pass the infield.

However, he garnered a hit with no outs and runners on first base in the third inning. After watching sinker strike in the middle of the first pitch, Lee Jeong-hoo was caught in the high zone and was at an unfavorable count of two strikes. He fouled off a four-seam fastball in the third and a slub in the middle of the fourth, respectively.

He eventually hit the fifth ball. He made a contact with his 76.5 miles (123.1 kilometers) slub that left the zone lower than the outside, but made a hit that fell in front of the right fielder. The timing was fast, but he paused for a moment and hit a low breaking ball outside with exquisite bat control. Lee Jung-hoo's outstanding hitting skills in the out zone and hitting the batter's box. On the other hand, pitcher Quintana threw a ball well near the zone, which was advantageous in counting, but she must have lost steam as she got a hit.

The broadcasting staff of "NBC Sports Bay Area," San Francisco's main broadcaster, were also impressed by Lee's hit. The broadcasting staff said, "I hit the ball perfectly located in the outer corner. This is the point we are talking about Lee. He is better than anyone else in the team. He can hit without having to strain his lower body."

With no outs and runners on the first and second bases, San Francisco's Jorge Soler struck out a rookie, but Matt Chapman hit a two-run double to the left. While Mets left fielder Brandon Nimmo couldn't catch the ball at once and rolled to the fence, Lee ran all the way from the first base to the home and scored an additional point. It was the moment when the score widened to 4-0.

At the third batter's box with no outs in the fifth inning, Lee grounded out to the first base again. After picking out Quintana's first pitch, he hit an 88.7-mile sinker that came into the middle of the second pitch, but the ball led to a groundout to the first base.

His fourth at-bat without a runner in the seventh inning faced right-handed Sean Reid-Pauley. As four-seam fastballs in a row went out high, Lee Jung-hoo got on base with a walk. He got multiple bases loaded with his eighth walk of this season.

San Francisco won the game 5-2. Starting pitcher Keaton Winning garnered his second win (three losses) of the season by displaying quality pitching of three hits (one homer) and six strikeouts and one run with no outs in six innings. The only loss he had was a solo home run hit by Pete Alonso in the fifth inning. He pitched four-seam fastballs (35) with splitter (38), sinker (9), and slider (5), as well as maximum 97.4 miles (156.8 kilometers) and average 95.6 miles (153.9 kilometers).

The batter's box also helped Win. Nick Ahmed hit a timely two-run homer in the second inning with the bases loaded with two outs and hits by Soler and Michael Confoto, and a walk by Tyro Estrada. Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor swung at the batter's box to hit the batter's box, but two runners came in to take the lead.

San Francisco, which added additional runs with Wilmer Flores' walk in the fourth inning, Lee Jung-hoo's right-handed hit and Chapman's two-run double to the left, solidified its victory with Confoto's superior solo shot in the sixth inning. Confoto played evenly with two hits and one RBI in four at-bats, Ahmed's two hits and two RBIs in four at-bats, and Soler's two hits and one walk in three at-bats.

San Francisco Giants, which won the game on the first day of the three consecutive games, marked 11 wins and 13 losses. The Mets, which lost two consecutive games, now have 12 wins and 10 losses. Mets starter Quintana lost for the second time this season by allowing seven hits (one homer) and three walks, four strikeouts, and five runs in five innings.
